BIKE PATROL BENEFITS
Bike Patrol members get these benefits:

  1. Wear the distinctive Bike Patrol T-shirt (or Jersey for those who have completed 15 Perimeter Bicycling events as Bike Patrol),
  2. Have special training opportunities (see schedule of Bike Patrol certification classes,
  3. Get preferential parking on event morning,
  4. Are admired by El Tour cyclists, and
  5. Enjoy their ride a lot more!

BIKE PATROL DUTIES
Bike Patrol helps out in four ways during El Tour (and the three other Perimeter Bicycling events):
1) Encourage people;
2) Provide mechanical help (most often flats or chain coming off);
3) Provide 1st Aid help – but only to the extent you are trained and qualified for; and
4) Watch for and encourage people to obey the event rules (for specifics, see:  http://www.perimeterbicycling.com/!ETT/ElTourRules.htm )
Bike Patrollers have fun!  Bike Patrollers get immense satisfaction from helping others!
Join us and see for yourself !!

BIKE PATROL CERTIFICATION
How does one become a Perimeter Bicycling Bike Patrol member?

  1. Have a desire to help others.
  2. Have the ability to help others (basic mechanics, first aid, & encouragement).
  3. Complete a Bike Patrol application.
  4. Pay the very modest Bike Patrol fee (to keep us from taking away from the event charities).
  5. Attend a basic Bike Patrol certification class (See the schedule of Bike Patrol certification classes ).

Here is a list of all current and former Bike Patrollers. Please check the list for your name and the expiration date of your Bike Patrol Certification. If for some reason you believe we are in error, please notify us by calling 520-745-2033, or e-mail to bikepatrol@perimeterbicycling.com.
Certification for experienced Bike Patrollers has been changed to once every three years, and may even be extended to once every four years. We REALLY appreciate our regular, year-after-year Bike Patrollers J

BIKE PATROL OPTIONS:
1) Ride in Pairs (you identify your partner, or we do), or
2) Ride Alone (with a cell phone or radio).  See criteria for this method below.
We will allow individual Bike Patrol cyclists to ride our Events, so long as they have met the following criteria:

  1. Must be a currently certified Bike Patrol Member.
  2. Must agree to follow all of the rules of Bike Patrol, including wearing the Bike Patrol T-Shirt and assisting cyclists along the route.
  3. Must agree to carry a fully charged cell phone, or ham radio with event net frequencies, during the entire event - your own personal phone or radio! The phone/radio will allow you to call emergency personnel to the scene of a crash should you encounter one.
  4. Must stay at the scene of a crash until qualified emergency personnel arrive at the scene.
  5. Must notify the Bike Patrol Director at least three days prior to the event that you intend to ride as a "Single Bike Patrol Member", and must give your personal cell phone number, or call sign, to the Bike Patrol Director.

This "Single Bike Patrol Method applies to all Perimeter Cycling events (where Bike Patrol are used), including El Tour de Tucson.
